Path and goal
To reach the pathI show
Means recognising the goal,
Towering high above all earthly goals,
Already called ‘sublime’
By dreams steeped in desire.
If someone finds the path,
He finds the path’s exalted goal.
After his first few steps upon the path
He feels restored,
No longer compulsory subjected
To meaningless games.
And yet: the path is not measured through contest,
No one can surpass other applicants!
Here the wanderer must first
Forget every urge for recognition
Before he hears himself be called by name at the goal.
